Red Star Working Presa Canario Seminar, Spring 2001

Our seminars have been taking place since 1998. In the last two years, both public interest and participation have increased tremendously. The latest, May 5, 2001 event attracted circa 60 people and as many as 20 dogs, excluding our own. Hoping to give you a better idea about performance Presas, we have compiled a photo gallery of our latest seminar.

Each event involves a Temperament Test, custom designed by us so as to be able to evauate degrees of socialization, obedience, and protectiveness in Presas. This year we also offer a CGC (Canine Good Citizen) test endorsed nation wide by the AKC. We feel it promotes responsible ownership and encourage all our puppy buyers to have their dogs pass.

In the course of the seminar we have many working demonstrations of Presas during obedience, agility and protection work. There are many "surprise" scenarios where the dogs perform under various circumstances for the first time. It is a pleasure to see everybody having fun. Participants and spectators all gain in knowledge. Enjoy!

RS Kovu, RS Buckley and RS Primo - all litter mates at 16 mo. during socialization part of the CGC test.

RS Ivy (16 mo.) during agility catwalk exercise; our CI import males Urbo (9mo.) and Cona (4yrs.) peacefully sharing a toy during a socialization exercise; RS Tanah (13 mo.) during a "recall under environmental distractions" exercise.

A six-foot high obstacle jump performed by RS Harif (18 mo.); RS Cona (4 yrs.) pictured during a "jump-and-bite" exercise.

RS Buckley (16 mo.), RS Linda (4yrs., CI import), and RS Tanah (13 mo.) during protection work

RS Urbo (9 mo.) preparing to engage the sleeve; same pup going for the sleeve; and RS Tyra (21 mo.) - a dog without any previous training doing bite work on a sleeve.

RS Roxy (23 mo.) with no previous training, RS Ivy (16 mo.), and RS Viuga (21 mo.).

RS Duna (3 yrs.) during handler protection.

RS Primo (16 mo.) and RS Kovu (16 mo.) handler defense.

RS Buckley (16 mo.) during a surprise move from a decoy. The decoy tried to drive the dog away by throwing a bucket filed with water at him.

RS Mac (3 yrs.) - PP work; RS Turco (7 yrs.) during a "kidnapping" scenario - the "bad guy" went for a child when the dog was busying himself with a ball. We came up with the idea in order to test this hard dog's ability to respond to a child's recall command. The dog protected Mariya safely and outed on the first command.

This image is from a game we named "Hudson Ho' Down". It is handler and dog team against two decoys. The object of the game is to wrestle your opponents down to the ground. The team that achieves this in the shortest time, wins. This year it was the AB team (Mark and Lueka - last year's champs), and the Presa team (Alex and RS Cona). Last year's champions were defeated.
