- Safety for dog and decoy
- Basic equipment used (tie-outs, bungees, sleeves...ect)
- Theory and recognition/manipulation of drives
- Creating a system of interaction
- Puppy imprinting and grip development pre/post teething
- Basic and advanced targeting on the sleeve and suit
- Developing the entry
- Conditioning to environmental stressors and helper pressure
- Catching a dog, the basics to advanced esquives
- Application of control in bitework
- Use of electronics in bitework
- How to stay healthy as a helper/decoy (exercise/stretching protocol)
- A dog. We welcome all dogs at all levels to help train and be trained.
- A chair. The particular choice is yours.
- A notebook. Only mead notebooks are acceptable. Just kidding.
- Athletic shoes. Again, the choice is yours.
- A jock or some form of groin protection.
- A suit (if you've got one, I will have a couple here to use also)
- Appropriate clothing. Although we have an indoor facility as well, weather can be a factor so please be prepared.
Lunch will be provided both days, but we encourage you to bring refreshments for yourself.
Mark is one of two trainers at Red Star Kennel. He has been training dogs in protection work since 1998 in various sports including Schutzhund, French and Mondio Ring, PSA and SDA. Since then, Mark has trained countless dogs for all applications of bitework. Mark took 1st place amongst the U.S. decoys in the NARA super selection in 2007. He was also the winner of Decoy of the Year.
Since he began participating in French Ring in 2004, Mark has decoyed over 30 trials including the 2009 central zone regional championships.
Mark has also trained to title over 12 dogs from Brevet to Ring III coaching decoying all of the obedience, agility and protection work. Including two Presa Canarios (brevet & Ring I), two Renascence Bulldogs (brevet), a boxer (Ring I), a Bouvier (Ring II), a Dutch Shepherd (Ring I) and 4 Malinois (2 Ring III, 2 ring II). Currently, Mark is preparing Red Star Dangermouse (Ring II), along with Irina Shimko, for the competition season of 2013 in Ring III.
